Fly fishing is considered one of the most promising fishing methods. In Tauferer Ahrntal there are four sections of water that are partially reserved for fly fishing.

In order to go fly fishing in South Tyrol you must have a valid fishing licence as well as a valid day pass for the respective section of water. Foreign citizens can purchase an Italian fishing license at the local tourist office.

Stretches of water and rules
Mühlwalder stream fly fishing area
This 20 km long mountain stream is divided into two zones and has a relatively low water level. You can find trout and grayling of all sizes.
- Day pass:
“No Kill” – € 33.00 | “Kill” – € 43.00 - Fishing: permitted only with a fishing pole
- Bait: max. 2 artificial dry or wet flies without a barbed hook – all other types of bait are prohibited
- Withdrawal: max. 2, thereof 2 rainbow trout from 25 cm, or max. 1 brown trout from 35 cm
- Protection: Grayling and marble goby are protected
- Day pass:
“No Kill” – € 33.00 | “Kill” – € 43.00 - Fishing: permitted only with a fishing pole
- Bait:
- in the designated renaturation area, from approx. 1 km of the upper border (see signs) fishing is only permitted with a dry fly!
- max. 2 artificial dry or wet flies without a barbed hook – all other types of bait are prohibited
- Withdrawal: max. 2 rainbow trout from 25 cm
- Protection: grayling, marble goby and brown trout are protected
Meggima artificial lake fly fishing area
These fish, which are particularly active at the surface all season long, make this lake a favourite destination for everyone who loves dry fly fishing.
- Day pass:“No Kill” – € 33.00 | “Kill” – € 43.00
- Fishing: permitted with only one rod
- Bait:
- max. 2 artificial dry or wet flies without a barbed hook
- all other types of bait are prohibited, as well as the “Camoliera” feeder fishing
- Withdrawal: max. 3 – rainbow trout from 25 cm, or 3 brown trout from 35 cm
- Protection: Grayling and marble goby are protected
Fishing in the Neves artificial lake
The Neves artificial lake created at the beginning of the 60s in Talschluss in is located at an altitude of 1,800 m. You can fish trout, and it is not rare to find beauties of up to 70 cm. Char and grayling are protected
- Day pass: € 35.00
- Fishing:
- permitted with only one fishing rod and one hook
- an exception is for fly fishing, with a max. of 2 flies or the “”Camoliera“ feeder system with a max. of 3 flies
- the fly fishing area is signposted and in that area fishing is permitted only with a fly fishing rod
- Bait: if using natural bait the hook must have a minimum opening of 1 cm and may not have a barbed hook
- Withdrawal: 3 fish
- Minimum sizes: Rainbow trout 25 cm, brown trout and brook trout 30 cm, marble goby 40 cm, grayling 40 cm
Fly fishing area in the Ahr river near Kematen
The Ahr river near Kematen offers excellent grayling and trout fishing in spring and in particular in autumn.
- Day pass:
“No Kill” – € 50.00 | “Kill” – € 70.00 - Fishing: permitted with only one fly fishing rod
- Bait: max. 2 artificial dry or wet flies without a barbed hook – all other types of bait are prohibited
- Withdrawal „no Kill“:
- withdrawal only after consultation with the property manager
- use of a landing net is mandatory
